Education Minister Hon. Douglas Syakalima has pointed out that his Ministry is not only looking at the wellbeing of learners while in class, but is also concerned about children’s development holistically.

The Minister has stated that his Ministry looks at the development of the whole person, that is intellectually, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

“If the child can have a good night’s rest, that child will surly perform well in class.” Hon. Syakalima said.

The Minister was speaking when he officially flagged off distribution of mattresses to various schools in the country.

At a function held at the Ministry of Education, Zambia Education Project Implementation Unit (ZEPIU) premises, the Minister flagged off distribution of 1,372 mattresses to 8 schools in Central, Copperbelt, Northern, Southern and Lusaka Provinces.

Hon. Syakalima pointed out that distribution of mattresses to needy schools across the country is an ongoing exercise.

And the Minister also handed over 300 desks to Kaoma Central Constituency in Western Province.

He told Kaoma Central Member of Parliament Hon. Morgan Sitwala, who received the desks on behalf of his constituency, that his Ministry is aggressively manufacturing and rehabilitating desks in large numbers.

The Minister explained that he is also happy that all constituencies in the country are using part of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to manufacture desks so that the deficit, that continues to grow each term due to free education, is met.

And speaking after receiving the desks Kaoma Central Member of Parliament Morgan Sitwala commended the Ministry of Education for the gesture.

“The 300 desks are a shot in the arm that will add to other interventions the constituency is doing.” The Kaoma Central MP said. #moecommunications
