THE 2023 ZAMBIA EDUCATION CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK IS PROGRESSIVE – KAMOKO.
The Ministry of Education successfully held the validation of the 2023 Zambia Education Curriculum Framework in Lusaka from the 11th to 13th December 2023.
The validation meeting attracted participants from all parts of the country including parliamentarians, Traditional leaders and religious leaders.
Speaking during the official opening of the meeting, Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary – Education Services, Joel Kamoko, said the 2023 curriculum framework contains a number of progressive reforms that should be supported by all stakeholders.
Mr. Kamoko urged the participants to put the interest of the national first in their deliberations.
“You have not come here to push personal agendas or to disagree for the sake of academics but to ensure that the national agenda is reflected in the Curriculum framework.
Mr. Kamoko also said the process of reforming the curriculum is costly and urged co-operating partners to compliment government’s efforts by supporting the curriculum reform process.
The Permanent Secretary noted that among the reforms contained in the 2023 curriculum, is the structural adjustment of the education system to now be aligned with the global world.
He said one of the proposals contained in the curriculum is a change from “Grades” to “Forms” and having learners to write their school certificate examination at the end of form four.
“I must also add that the automatic progression from primary to secondary school has now been abolished forthwith together with junior secondary school examinations.” Mr. Kamoko said.
Mr. Kamoko stressed that he has no doubt that the 2023 Education Curriculum Framework, which is a subject of validation, will facilitate learners with knowledge and values that will help in the development of the country.
“I must state that this validation workshop we are all attending today has proposals that were made by different stakeholders and the ministry just guided and helped in putting the views into one document”, Mr. Kamoko noted.
Mr. Kamoko told the meeting that prior to the drafting of the curriculum framework, the ministry held a wide consultation with various stakeholders.
And speaking at the same event, Ministry of Education Director Curriculum Development Charles Ndakala said about 280 institutions made their submissions towards the development of the 2023 Zambia Education Curriculum Framework.
Dr. Ndakala stated that after receiving submissions, a consolidated framework was developed and soft copies were distributed hence the validation workshop being held today.
