THE MANDATE OF DODE
To increaseaccess to, and participation in education and training, and promote lifelong learning for the out-of–school children (OOSC), youths and adults.
To provide quality education and training through the Alternative Modes of Education Provision (AMEP), in mainstream schools and AMEP Centres.
The primary focus is to expand access to education by providing opportunities to children, youths and adults, particularly the out-of-school learners, the school drop outs,push outs, and the never-been to school who are unable to access the conventional or regular schooling mode.
The Directorate of Open and Distance Education (DODE), is one of the Directorates in the Ministry of Education.
It has been providing Secondary Distance Education since independence, to those learners who wanted to upgrade their academic qualifications to General Certificate Education (GCE) level.
